This autumn, Koinonia marks its 30th anniversary. The group was founded in 1995 during the ministry of Rev Wilfred Orr to provide a place for older church members to meet, enjoy fellowship, and hear interesting speakers. The name Koinonia comes from the Greek word for Christian fellowship and community.
We’re delighted that Rev Wilfred Orr, our first minister during Koinonia’s early days, will be the guest speaker at our anniversary opening meeting on Thursday 9th October at 10.30 am. Everyone is welcome to come along and help us celebrate.
Over the past three decades, Koinonia has hosted a wide range of speakers covering topics from history and travel to public service and the arts. Highlights have included talks from figures such as Father Brian D’Arcy, the late historian Dr Éamon Phoenix, and Baroness May Blood.
Members have also enjoyed annual outings to places like Bessbrook, Ballyscullion House, and local castles, as well as organising the popular church art exhibitions since 2007. These events have raised funds for the church and charities while bringing the local community together.
A big thank-you to everyone who has supported Koinonia over the years – founders, speakers, organisers, and members alike. Here’s to the next 30 years of friendship, learning and fellowship.
