ANNOUNCEMENTS

🎶 CHOIR: NEW REHEARSAL TIME, NEW WAYS TO JOIN IN!

We’re making it easier to be part of our choir – rehearsals are now on Sundays at 12 noon, with time to grab a coffee after the service. You’re also welcome to join us just for the introit and anthem if sitting in the choir stalls throughout the service doesn’t work for you. If you love to sing, we’d love to welcome you! Please speak to our musical director, Deirdre, for more information.

QUIZ TIME is here again, and St John’s Women will be selling quiz sheets from today at a cost of £2. Look out for them at coffee on Sunday morning after the service.

ALPHA at NEWTOWNBREDA

Our Alpha course continues this evening at 6.30 pm in the Rosetta Hall.  The session is entitled How can I have faith? Everyone is welcome whether you have attended previously or not.

KOINONIA

This year’s programme opens on Thursday 8 October when our speaker will be Nigel Henderson, a local historian. Nigel has visited and researched the stained glass windows in our own and other local churches. His illustrated talk will cover St John’s, Cooke Centenary, Good Shepherd, St Jude’s and Knockbreda Parish and will feature the work of Clokeys, the prominent Belfast stained glass studio.

We meet at 10.30 am for a coffee and a chat, with the speaker introduced at 11.00 am.  If you’re free, please call in to join us – you will be made very welcome. Invitations to this event have also been extended to other local Ormeau Road churches.

HARVEST THANKSGIVING SUNDAY 11 OCTOBER

Next Sunday we gather to give thanks for all God has given us and share what we have received with others. Flowers, fruit and especially dry or tinned food for Foodstore can be brought to church on Saturday 10 October, 10 am–12 noon.

The church will also be open for decorating from 2–4 pm.

Organisations and individuals are invited to decorate a church window. Volunteers are welcome on Saturday afternoon to help arrange flowers and fruit, tidy up or provide tea. Dry and tinned food will go to Foodstore; flowers and fruit will be shared with members who are housebound, ill or recently bereaved.

It’s Shoebox time again! Pre-printed shoeboxes including information leaflets with packing suggestions will be available throughout October – from the church vestibule or the Rosetta Hall during tea/coffee.

Gifts through Operation Christmas Child bring immense joy, excitement and hope to millions of children in need worldwide. They are a tangible expression of God’s love and may be the only gift a child receives.   When packing your shoebox, aim to make it fun and full — brimming with durable, high-quality items and no empty spaces.  Remember to personalize it and include a photo or note of encouragement.  Pray over the shoebox as you prepare it.  Please DO NOT put in sweets, soap, toothpaste, liquids or lotions.

You can also choose to pack a shoebox online — a quick and easy way to donate. This option allows you to track where your shoebox using the barcode included with your gift.  Visit the Samaritan’s Purse website at Shoebox Online | Samaritans Purse or scan the QR code below.  To help monitor the boxes please let me know if you pack one Online.

Please leave filled boxes in the Church Foyer/Office on or before Sunday 8 November in time for National Collection Week 9-16 November.
