Community Spirit Shines Through the Rain!

Community Spirit Shines Through the Rain!

We all love a challenge, don’t we? This year’s Newtownbreda Church Fete certainly gave us one!

After one of the driest summers on record, the weather decided to make up for lost time. Just as we reached Saturday 27 September, a severe weather warning and flash-flood alert arrived — followed by news of lane closures on the Ormeau Road for essential maintenance. Not exactly ideal timing!

But thanks to our team of over 60 committed volunteers, we adapted, reorganised, and opened our doors at 2 pm as planned. While the rain forced us indoors (and sadly our visiting ponies had to stay home this year), we made the most of every space:

  • The Megaw Room hosted an indoor bouncy castle and games for children.

  • The Scout barbecue moved to the foyer, filling the halls with delicious aromas.

  • And the Rosetta Hall provided a warm welcome with tea, treats, and plenty of chat.

Despite the weather, the atmosphere was fantastic — laughter, friendship, and that unmistakable sense of church family working together.

Our St John’s Hall was packed with stalls offering plants, toys, books, home produce, toiletries, jewellery, and more. It’s amazing to see how generous our church family is — every single item donated from within our congregation. Beyond fundraising, the fete is a great reminder of how preloved items can find new homes, helping us care for creation and live more sustainably.

We’re deeply thankful for everyone who volunteered, donated, or came along to support the day. The fete not only raises funds for the church but also strengthens our connection with the wider community, and we were delighted to see so many new faces this year.

So, that’s the fete wrapped up for 2025 — but we’re already looking ahead!

🗓 Save the date: Saturday 26 September 2026.
