We often end our opening prayer by saying the Lord’s Prayer together.

Please join us in whatever version or language is most familiar to you.

Our Father, who is in heaven,
hallowed be your name;
your kingdom come;
your will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen

Annual Church Fête Saturday 26 September 2026

Bethel Christian School, Mbarara, Uganda

This year the fête will be held on Saturday 26 September 2026 and Session has agreed to support a nominated beneficiary from some of the funds generated from the fête.

The congregation may recall, in 2017 a group from Newtownbreda and Holy Rosary visited Mbarara in Uganda to help further develop facilities at Bethel Christian School. The school has had its ‘ups and downs’ since then and some of the original visiting group have kept in touch with our friends in Bethel. The Pastor’s son Joel is now the principal of the school and has brought significant improvements to the school in the last 6 months. This has been most appreciated by the students, parents and staff of the school.

As with any organisation, the fabric of the school building has declined and is now in need of essential works to the toilet facilities. The photographs below show the current state of repair and if not rectified, the school is at risk of closure.

As we start thinking about the fête, please continue to gather what you can to donate as all contributions will go a long way to helping Bethel Christian School with some of the costs to carry out the essential works and keep their school open.

So, in carrying out your Spring clean and thinking about what you can donate, we are asking you to ‘clear out your clutter’ and donate preloved items. We host a variety of stalls with lots of preloved items, books, ornaments, crystal, bric-a-brac goods, toys, games, jigsaws, jewellery, unopened cosmetics, seasonal decorations, indoor and outdoor furniture items and the list goes on and on. So please use this as an opportunity to declutter the house, the roof space, the garage and the garden shed.

If you have any items that you think would be suitable and need help in getting these to church, please let Heather or Austin know. Alternatively, you can leave items on the stage in the St John’s hall.

We are also hoping for a good team of volunteers to help with the many aspects of the day. Whether you can help donate goods, make jam or cakes, assist with set up or help on the day…. the opportunities are wide and varied. Let your friends, family, neighbours and work colleagues know of the opportunity to donate goods and within reason, we can accept most items, even small items of furniture.

Thank you Heather and Austin
